Summary:

The crew is greeted in the morning by an explosion, but also by waffles courtesy of Chef Jeklonsilthorp. After breakfast, they meet up with High Warden Kyrea to plan their investigation into the strange behavior of the Paraikete. Joining the High Warden is Fikk'ren and the new Rookie Warden Serilanav, who is going on her first official mission. They reach out to one of the Order of the Guiding Star's contacts in the city, Dr. Tohorā, and he provides useful information about the strange happenings around five of Nereus' many sacred moons.

With a list of five moons in hand, the crew begins to investigate them one-by-one, with Bubble AI "helping" to guide them and ensure they don't violate any laws. They begin their search on the oceanic moon of Ngaru-tai, where they find a mother Paraikete in distress, guarding two of her children. Navan is able to telepathically share thoughts and feelings, receiving emotional responses indicating that the mother is sad about losing her children, and has encountered the mold in some capacity.

They then investigate the forested moon of Marama-tai, where they discover a lingering trace of magic after some event, along with various foreign plants, including some that glow a deep indigo. They discover a wounded young Paraikete in a cave, restrained by thorny vines and recently mold-infected. Some of the foreign plants nearby are recognized as originating from Foloi. They follow a trail of fresh footprints back outside, carefully avoiding plant-based traps, and discover two Xochitl attempting to flee.
