Summary:

Upon landing in Kaikūmera City on Nereus, some of the concerned crew began investigating a cleansing ritual of the Sea Mother that they had previously heard rumors about. Hopeful that this ritual would be able to cleanse them of their mold infection, they began searching around for anyone who might be able to point them in the right direction.

They were accosted by a young Nereid girl named Omori who taught them how to use Bubble Maps and whose aunt is a librarian at Kaikūmera's University, who might be able to fill them in. They sought out Dr. Neli Kunalo in the underwater portion of the city, who explained that this ritual may or may not be real, but that there are enough records of similar occurrences that she believes it to have some truth. Allegedly, a fisherman acting as an agent of the Sea Mother will appear before them at their time of need, at which point they can request passage aboard their boat. They would then embark upon a spiritual journey to bring them closer to the Sea Mother, facing their deepest fears in order to cure what ails them. In the end, participants are either cured or die in the process.

Dr. Kunalo remained interested in why the crew was interested in the ritual, but the process of explaining the details proved to rather painful, especially for Hemlock and Jenkins. Dr. Kunalo decided to take the rest of the day (and week) off...

After nearly giving up on their search, the crew finally found an old Nereid fisherman in an antique boat, who seemed to be waiting for them. He promised that passage wouldn't be safe, but that they should return in the morning if this is the path they wish to follow.
