Session 34 - Arms Deal

Summary:

Upon landing on Nereus' Kaikūmera City, a few members of the crew were tasked by Captain Penrose to begin gathering information relevant to the arms deal that Director Xenfei tasked them with. They received an encoded transmission telling them to come to a location in the city's warehouse district at 20:00 with the package, along with a passphrase to identify themselves with.

The crew began by researching the situation on Nereus, learning more about the refugee crisis that supposedly began around three weeks ago. Hezekiah, a kind refugee, told them that the Sea Mother was distraught that something had been rendering more and more areas unlivable, and that creatures and occurrences like those found in fairytales had suddenly appeared. The Nereids are also skeptical of the Arcadians and their potential involvement, though they do seem genuine in their aid of the refugees.

At the time of the arms deal, they met with a group of Nereids who seemed to be putting on an act, all bearing the symbol of a tear in front of a wave. They were skeptical of handing over the weapons, but ultimately the deal went through. It wasn't until afterwards that they were a part of the Tears of the Mother, a group of anti-Arcadian freedom fighters and terrorists. Conflicted, they developed a plan to leave a handwritten note at the doorstep of the Arcadian embassy to inform them of the imminent danger, but it wasn't enough to stop the inevitable. In the morning, the rebels set off a large bomb at one of the refugee centers, killing refugees, civilians, and Arcadians alike, with Hezekiah included among the dead.
