Summary:

Woken up by an explosion nearby, the crew prepares to set out and take the old Nereid fisherman up on his offer, hoping to rid themselves of their infection. The three find him again on the docks, joining him on his antique wooden boat and embarking on this ritual trial of the Sea Mother.

The crew is faced with physical manifestations of their fears that are indistinguishable from reality, and their guide neglects to provide them with answers. Weyes encounters and comforts a younger version of themself restrained by chains, rattled with insecurity and switching between various forms. Jenkins is confronted by his boss, who threatens to terminate his contract, backhanding him into unconsciousness as he begins to question his blind loyalty. Hemlock attempts to get the upper hand on his malicious mirror duplicate by shooting him before he can react, but ends up playing right into the other Hemlock's hand. After provoking them with the strange laser scalpel and stabbing it into their hand, Hemlock can only watch in horror as their other, original self digs the scalpel in deeper, slicing his arm and piercing his heart. Hemlock fights against his urges and heals his progenitor, whose eyes open to reveal a deep, indigo blue.
